Mould needs moisture, still air and time, a couple of days of sustained damp is enough for colonisation to begin on plasterboard and timber. Fast, verified drying is the real prevention. Where growth is already visible, or the event was discovered late, remediation follows containment-based practice so spores are not simply redistributed through the building.

Timing
When it's needed
A musty odour after a water event, visible spotting on walls or ceilings, or water damage discovered weeks after it happened are the usual triggers. Reactions to mould vary from person to person; the cautious path with established growth is containment and removal, never bleach and a coat of paint.
Water and electricity share the same walls. Do not wade into flooded rooms while power is on, treat sagging wet ceilings as ready to fall, and avoid direct contact with floodwater or anything sewage-affected, assume contamination until the water has been classified.
